Supporting the 2024 AMMSS Field School
In May 2024, the FORCE team supported the first Atmospheric Measurement and Modelling Summer School AMMSS held at Blencathra in the Lake District, UK. The AMMSS is designed to provide the key skills required for practical fieldwork and to appreciate the linkages between modelling and observations in a digital ecosystem.
High-Resolution WRF Forecasts for the Lake District
FORCE provided high-resolution WRF simulations of the Blencathra region via a set of three nests, the innermost nest having a resolution of 800 m. An example forecast is shown below.
Hands-On Modelling and Data Analysis
In addition to the operational forecasts, students were able to plot the WRF data alongside measurements using a suite of scripts developed by the FORCE team.
